Improved respiratory endurance:
Inspiratory muscle training can improve inspiratory endurance and time to fatigue in patients with asthma.
Increased quality of life:
Respiratory muscle training can be an effective way to enhance respiratory muscle strength, exercise capacity, quality of life, daily living activities, reduced perception of dyspnea, and fatigue in asthmatic.
Decreased dyspnea:
IMT has been shown to decrease dyspnea, increase inspiratory muscle strength, and improve exercise capacity in asthmatic individuals.
Effectiveness of RMT:
RMT is effective for adults with COPD when using threshold or targeted devices that control or provide a target for training intensity.
Decreased dyspnea:
Dyspnea is decreased after IMT. Quality of life , exercise capacity and Maximal inspiratory pressure were increased.
RMT and COVID:
IMT program should be encouraged in the COVID-19 management protocol.
Improved functional capacity:
The IMT improves functional capacity and balance, respiratory and peripheral muscle strength; decreases depression and dyspnea perception in patients with heart failure.
Improved blood pressure:
IMT offers a low cost, nonpharmacologic means of improving … blood pressure in patients who are intolerant of CPAP.

Wellness

Anxiety

Sleep

Depression

RMT and panic attacks:
Respiratory muscle tension may contribute to the respiratory sensations experienced by panic-prone individuals. Theories and treatments for panic disorder should consider this potential source of symptoms.
RMT decreases anxiety/depression:
Results also support the other known benefits of IMT such as reduced dyspnea … , decreased anxiety and depression, and improved quality of life.
RMT Improved sleep quality:
12 weeks of moderate load IMT resulted in improved sleep quality.
Improved sleep with RMT:
IMT offers a low cost, nonpharmacologic means of improving sleep.
Reduced depression level:
Respiratory muscle training reduced the level of depression; the mechanism behind the improvement in depression needs further investigation.
Depression associated with low respiratory fitness:
Among patients undergoing OHS, those with a higher level of depression or anxiety had a lower cardiorespiratory fitness than those with a low level of depression or anxiety.

Sports

Athletic Performance

Improved muscle strength in athletes:
The results suggest that IMT-linear represents an effective tool to improve the inspiratory muscle strength of athletes, as well as sports performance.
General athleticism and RMT:
IMT/RMT can increase athletic performance and respiratory muscle strength and endurance. Sports performance showed highly significant improvements in response to IMT/RMT.
Benefits for basketball players:
A 4-week IMT protocol leads to a positive evolution of basketball players’ pulmonary function:
Improved anaerobic threshold:
Modified IMT enhanced the respiratory muscle strength, and the decrease in work capacity under hypoxia was reduced regardless of the increase in VO2peak.
RMT in Paralympic athletes:
IMT resulted in significant diaphragmatic hypertrophy and increased inspiratory muscle strength in highly trained Paralympic athletes with cervical SCI:
Track running and RMT:
Track runners benefit from respiratory muscle training:
